New World Screwworm Emergency Response

Last Modified: April 14, 2026

The materials on this page are specific to New World screwworm (NWS). You can use these tools and resources to prepare for and respond to an outbreak of this pest.

We also offer materials that apply not only to NWS, but other foreign animal pests and diseases as well. To view these materials, visit Foreign Animal Disease Preparedness and Response.

For general information about NWS, visit New World Screwworm.

In recent years, NWS has moved northward through Central America and Mexico. USDA is leading a national, One Health response to keep NWS out of the United States. Our whole-of-government effort is crucial to protect the U.S. livestock industry, economy, food supply, and public health.
